The church of Panagia Neroferousas is the centerpiece of Pentakomo village. Made of local stone, the church owes its name to the feast of Ypapantis when periods of rains would bless the lands of the farmers. Thus came the name Neroferousa (Nero meaning “water”).

The monastery of Agios Georgios Alamanos, which first began as a men’s only monastery and was later turned into a women’s commune in 1949, is located approximately 24km east of Limassol, south of Monagroulli village. Ayios Lazaros Church was built by Emperor Leo Vl, in the 9th century. Restoration was carried out in the 17th century, keeping faithfully to the original plan, and the church can be called one of the tiniest examples of Byzantine architecture. Eight days before Easter, the icon of Saint Lazaros is taken in procession through the streets of Larnaca.

According to legend, Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, rose from the waves in this strikingly beautiful spot. The Greek name, Petra tou Romiou (The Rock of the Greek), also known as Aphrodite’s Rock, and is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of Byzantine times, Dighenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens at bay with amazing strength. It is said in one such fight he heaved a large rock (Petra), at his enemy.
